Recent Updates
4/25/05
Finally, another update. Today, I have added
another chapter to the current hot fanfic series,
The
Fourth Relevant Truth, by Alejandro Gonzalez. I was also
going to have a new poll for today, but Alxnet (the service behind my
polls) has decided to do a massive system upgrade that killed my old
services without notifying me (always nice). So, until that's
worked out, the Wayne's Q section is down.
There are also a few things to work out with the Public
Support pages before those are launched. I'll keep you updated when
that gets back into full swing. The site should also be soon
improved with PHP, and the next update will condense the Recent Updates
area so that it doesn't stretch so far down the screen. Plenty to
do, indeed!
3/7/05
Today, I have some
fanfiction updates that were
way past due. I apologize for the lack of updates lately, but I do
assure you that things are still happening behind the scenes of the
project. For the next update, I hope to have a new poll question and
a site section dedicated to the Public Support Team as described in the
1/12/05 section. I am also endeavoring to learn some PHP so that I
can doctor up the site a little bit, particularly to address some sizing
issues with the pages. Right now, the best way to stay active in the
project is to be a part of the forum, which I strongly encourage you to
check out, even if you're unaccustomed to forums. I can't stress
enough the great discussions that take place there, many of which have the
potential to directly affect the content of the novel.
1/12/05
Well, we don't have a schedule page up yet, so for now,
I'm going to post the notice for the next Public Support Team meeting
here. If you are signed up for the
mailing list,
then you should already have a notice waiting for you in your inbox.
The next public support meeting will take place at 7:00PM (Eastern Time)
Monday, January 17 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). The meeting is in
a chat room format and will be hosted through the project's forum (http://forum.chronotrigger.info).
If you have any questions, feel free to contact
me,
Ryan, or
Miqe. I and at least one
other Committee Officer will be there, so we hope to see you there!
1/1/05
Happy New Year! Since the holiday season is over,
the site is now back to its usual color scheme. Also, as a reminder,
don't forget to check back for any public support meetings announcements.
Members of the mailing list will also receive notices (see 12/23/04 update
below).
12/25/04
Merry Christmas! Today's update includes a couple
of additions to the
Fan Fictions
section, which has been redesigned to better incorporate submitted series.
There's some great stuff in there, so be sure to check them out!
12/23/04
Well, it's a little close to the holiday, but I decided
to go ahead and roll out the ol' Christmas style scheme once again.
This is really the only update for today, though I have a few fan fiction
submissions that will soon be posted.
Otherwise, there is a very important piece of news that
should be of interested to all supporters. The Support Team Officers
"Hikuro Mishiro" and "Miqe" will be running a brand new and exciting
extension to the project: public meetings. These meetings
will cover any general items of discussion regarding the project,
specifically in the area of support. We are planning for the
meetings to be regular and relatively short. To receive notices of
these meetings, be sure to sign up for the
mailing
list. The schedule for any known meetings will soon be available
from the site, so be sure to watch for that.
Finally, I wish all of you a very safe and happy
holiday season and a very merry Christmas!
11/14/04
The updates today include some changes to the
Committee page and some of the
general support pages. There are some new support images on the
Link to Us page, so you'll want to check those out for use on your own
site or forum signature. I have also added a new fan fiction
submission, which you can get from the
Fan Fiction section. Watch for more support-related updates to
follow very soon.
10/17/04
At the present time, I am working with the Committee
Officers to come up with new and interesting ways to involve all willing
fans more directly in our support efforts. We've got some great
ideas in the works, so be on the lookout for upcoming updates. In
the future, you can expect to see more emails being sent out to the
mailing list members and more activity from the Chrono Trigger
community as this project becomes more accepted and well-known amongst the
fans. In the near future, we also expect to be featured amongst
other great Chrono Trigger projects at the
Chrono
Compendium.
As another note, please keep in mind that there are
several links on this site that open new windows to display pages.
As such, many popup blockers may not allow this, so please be sure to add
chronotrigger.info to your list of unblocked sites for pop-ups. I
can assure you that this site will remain ad free (as far as pop-ups are
concerned), so you won't have to worry about that.
Finally, I would like to continue to encourage everyone
to stop by the project forum. This is truly where most of the action is at this
time, and I am currently stopping in here several times each week to
respond to posts. EzBoard truly makes it easy to create and use a
forum account, so please give it a try. I'm confident that you'll
enjoy it.
9/19/04
As many of you know, Square-Enix has issued a "cease
and desist" order to the developers of the
Chrono Trigger
Resurrection Project (if you haven't seen the beautiful screenshots on
the site, you need to). This is, of course, a very disappointing
loss to CT fans everywhere, including myself. On a brighter
note, however, there is a team of individuals working on the
Chrono Trigger Remake
Project, which is a similar venture that utilizes the Unreal
Tournament 2004 engine as a backbone. Clearly, fans are sending
a message that more is desired for the Chrono series.
Naturally, many have wondered what the fate of the
Resurrection Project means to the Chrono Trigger Novel Project and
have become discouraged or worried that the same thing might happen to us.
This is definitely a valid fear, but I think that there are many important
differences to consider.
The Resurrection Project had to do with actual video
and the recreation of scenes in 3D. Something of this nature, in my
opinion, sends off an immediate red flag to Square-Enix because it means
that someone is attempting to recreate game scenes, which could lead to
the recreation of an actual game. In addition, the Resurrection
Project had a large amount of publicity and anticipation, which meant that
people were getting excited about a graphical remake of Square-Enix's
scenes that were not to be affiliated with Square-Enix in any way.
To make a long explanation short, this type of project
greatly imposes on Square-Enix's actual industry, which is in graphics and
gaming. Novels and publications, however, are not, and would simply
be a supplement to anything that they have actually released. Think
of it this way: Anything that Square-Enix has ever allowed to be
published, such as players' guides, have been done by 3rd party companies
and not Square-Enix themselves (because that's not really what they're in
business for). Gaming and anything to do with graphics are different
issues, however, because these are things that Square-Enix produces
themselves. I think they'd probably like to keep it that way.
Does this mean that the Novel Project is not in danger?
Absolutely not. The challenge of gaining success for this project
will be in convincing Square-Enix that allowing the publication of this
novel will be beneficial to their business. As things stand, it
won't work for me to finish the novel on my own (or with the Editorial
Team) and then ask for their blessing. I truly feel that the success
of this project will rely a lot on its presentation, authenticity, and,
most of all, its business value.
So, it's also important to remember that I do not plan to take this story
out from under Square so that I can publish it and gain all the credit.
On the contrary, I will insist that, if it is in Square-Enix's honorable
interest, the original writers and developers of Chrono Trigger
approve of the story's content as presented through the novel. That
way, the novel comes out as a product authorized and approved by
Square-Enix and the creative geniuses who originally wrote it, and I would
simply be the one who put it on the pages.
With that said, let's get to site updates. There
have been several pieces of fanart submitted, so be sure to check that out
(and keep 'em coming!). I have also added two new polls to
the Wayne's Question section, one dealing with
the relationship between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross,
and the other having to do with this site. Please be sure to stop by
and vote in each. Thank you!
8/22/04
I have made some minor, though equally significant,
updates to the Positions page. Also, Vincent, who is now working as
a Fan Submissions representative, has made a couple of additions to the
Fan Art page. I also have some individuals currently working on
French and Japanese translations of the site.
Otherwise, school is starting up for most high schools
and colleges, which usually makes things a little quieter in terms of
project happenings. This time is somewhat of a natural pause for
both the Committee members and myself, so please don't be discouraged if
things slow down a bit. That doesn't mean any of us are any less
serious about the goals of this project. If you're one of those who
has started or will be starting school in the days ahead, good luck and
hang in there!
7/20/04
First of all, I want to apologize for those of you who
sent submissions for the Fan Submissions section and have had no
follow-up. Fortunately, I think I've finally got all of that up on
the site for everyone to enjoy. Other than the site going back to
its original scheme once again (with the two flags remaining), that's the
main update for today. As always, please be sure to check out the
forum (head to the Interactivity Center),
where there is always lots of action.
6/28/04
Greetings, fellow colonials! As promised, the site has been updated for
Independence Day! During this time of patriotic remembrance, I would
like to ask that everyone continue to keep all of those who are fighting
for America and for the good of mankind in general in their thoughts and
prayers. Similarly, please do the same for all of the leaders of our
country, from the mayor of your town to President Bush. This is definitely a time to remember where we came from as
a nation, what got us here, what is going on around us, and, especially
with the upcoming elections, what will take us into the future.
Ironically enough, today is Iraq's Independence Day, so you'll want to be
thinking about everyone over there, too.
The only update today is the site scheme, though I have
a few odds and ends that I need to add in soon. These schemes never
turn out quite as well as I originally imagine, but I don't think this one
is too bad (definitely better than the one for Easter). Happy
Independence Day, and may God bless America!
5/19/04
Hello! I just wanted to squeeze in one last
update before taking off for the honeymoon. The only update this
time was my Personal page, which has been
changed to reflect my marriage to my wife-to-be on May 22. Please be
sure to keep us in your prayers as we travel and begin our new lives
together.
Because of the many things that I will be handling in
the weeks to come, it's safe to say that another site update will not
happen until shortly before Independence Day. I trust that everyone
will be able to understand that. If you send me any emails, please
also understand that I will not be able to reply to them for a little
while, and I certainly appreciate your patience in that area. That
about does it for now. I'll catch everyone later on with the next
site update! Take care!
5/11/04
A few decent updates occurred today. For one,
there are two new polls posted in
Wayne's Q,
so be sure to check that out. Also, some screenshots of the seasonal
site designs have been added in the
About CTSite
section, which was mainly done for one of the new polls.
If you're on the mailing list, then you should have
received a newsletter dated 5/11. Chiefly, it announced the new
Multimedia section, mentioned the desire for
more CTNP banners, and mentioned that the site will probably not be
updated again until late June. In regards to the banners, all
banners submitted to
novelist@chronotrigger.info will be featured on the site with any
contact info the submitter desires, and the banner that I feel is the best
will be selected to represent the project on IcyBrian's RPG Page, which is
one of the most visited RPG sites on the Web.
As for the next update (which will probably include a
style scheme for Independence Day) will not take place for over a month
because I will be getting married and on my honeymoon towards the end of
this month. I'm extremely excited, but, during this time, I
will not be able to work on project work or answer to any emails or forum
posts. Please be understanding of this as I get myself situated into
a new house and a new life with my awesome wife-to-be, Kaly.
Hopefully, I'll have some pictures of the two of us on my personal profile
page soon. In case you're wondering, I do plan to have
sufficient time to work on the novel and the project after getting settled
into the house.
With that said, please
do not email me asking when the site will be updated or why I haven't been
responding to emails or forum posts. I'll get back into all of that
as soon as I can do so. Thanks!
4/13/04
I certainly hope everyone had a great Easter! As
you can now see, the Easter scheme has been tucked away and we're back to
the original champion color scheme of the site. The next special
style scheme will likely be centered around Independence Day, so you can
look forward to that one. There have been a few minor quirks fixed
since the last update, but nothing spectacular. For the next update,
I plan on putting up at least one new poll, since it has been a while
since a new one was posted.
4/10/04
Well, it's been quite a while since the last update,
but here it is! You should notice some very obvious changes right
from the start. Since this update incidentally falls in Easter
weekend, I decided to go ahead and throw out an Easter design. Some
of you will like it, some of you will not like it, and some of you won't
care, but you'll just have to let me have me have my fun, either way.
"CTSite" has been around for
years, but one thing that was never completed was the section for
pictures. Well, now I'm happy to announce that the new Multimedia
section is finally available, and not just with pictures, but also with
videos and music! The archives are pretty full, but there are
areas that could use some filling. If you have any contributions,
please feel free to email me.
Other updates include a few added submissions in the
Fan Submissions section as well as some small
design modifications here and there.
1/26/04
Over the past few days, some small "housekeeping"
updates have been made to improve the overall look of the site on certain
pages. There has also been a new addition to the
Downloads section: a Chrono Trigger
font by "Merlin Rowan." The download includes a ReadMe file with
instructions for installation (which is extremely easy).
The next update should include some much needed
updating to the Fans Submission section (bear with me on this stuff), as
well as some new content in the Multimedia section (finally).
Thank you for your patience!
1/2/04
With the holiday season now over, the site has returned
to its original style scheme, though it has been altered only slightly.
Look for the next updates to occur in the Fan Submissions section, the
Multimedia section, and the Novel Excerpts section.
I hope that everyone had a pleasant New Year's Day and
that 2004 will truly be a year of many great happenings for the Chrono
Trigger Novel Project.
12/22/03
Merry Christmas! Just because it's so much fun,
I've created a Christmas style scheme for the site. Thus, the fall
scheme must now go into the closet until that time comes around next year.
I also made some other tweaks to the site pages to make them display a
little better, but you won't notice any difference unless you're very
good at remembering details.
There really isn't much else to report, other than I plan to work some on
the Multimedia section (which, of course, has been the case for months)
soon.
Oh, and, just as a note, if open the forum in the frame (as opposed to a
new window), you'll definitely get a funky blend of color schemes whenever
I have one of these seasonal designs up. Let this be your warning,
and I always recommend opening the forum in a new window anyway.
With that said, I hope that all of you have a blessed, safe, and pleasant holiday
season! God bless!
12/6/03
Some poll updates today...(Please take a moment to vote
in each one if you haven't already.)
Take the poll regarding the site's seasonal color
scheme: Take Poll
(opens in new window)
Vote for your favorite Demo Chapter:
Take Poll (opens in
new window)
I'd still like to hear from more people about their
favorite Demo Chapter, so please take a moment to vote in this poll!
Also, I plan to do seasonal site schemes more often, so, if you have an
opinion about that, please be sure to take this opportunity to vote on it.
In other news, I plan to work
on the Multimedia sections soon, and I'd like to get more material for the
Fan Submissions sections. If you know anyone who is great with art
or writing and loves the Chrono series, please persuade them to
submit to
fansubmit@chronotrigger.info.
Also, the project's forum
continues to grow. There have been many great discussions from lots
of intelligent individuals regarding issues that directly relate to the
story and the novel. I strongly encourage you to get involved
in these discussions so that your ideas and opinions can be heard, too!
11/27/03
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the site is getting a
temporary fall facelift. This color scheme won't be around for too
long, but I thought it would add a nice little flavor of variety.
Feel free to let me know how you like alternate color schemes like this in
comparison to the usual style.
There haven't been any major updates otherwise, though
I am working on obtaining more submissions for the Fan Submissions
sections. I know of several individuals who are working on articles,
art, and fan fiction, and I hope that you are among the many how have
decided to participate. This truly is a great opportunity to show
others what you can do.
Lately, there have also been some great discussions at
the forum regarding issues in the novel. I strongly encourage
everyone to stop in, whether you have an account or not, to share your
opinions and take part in the discussion. The forum is one of the
most effective ways to submit ideas and input regarding the novel, so
please take advantage of this great opportunity! The forum is
available through the Interactivity Center.
ALSO,
I'd like to bring your attention to this piece of work by the CTNP
Committee Programmer, Vince. He has created a special SPC Player
with characteristics that may allow for the playing of SPC files on web
sites like this one. This particular player is a stand-alone player
that works well and can be used to play any SPC file, which is a file
containing emulated game music. He has asked that you help him
out by giving it a try, so please follow this link to open his
download page (in a new window):
http://ctcsg.no-ip.com/PRODUCTS/CTCSG/SOFTWARE/FREE/DESCRIPTIONS/
The player comes
with the popular Chrono Trigger title "To Far Away Times," and you
can also find the complete SPC soundtrack in the
Downloads section of this site.
11/1/03
There were actually 3 separate updates today...
This update proves to you that I actually am working on
the new submissions sections. You should now be able to see direct
links to the forum and the new submissions section. I hope to have
lots of participants to send in fan art, novel cover art, fan fiction, and
articles, so please take a couple of minutes to browse what's there and
think about what you may be able to contribute. The current sections
can give you an idea of the information (name, descriptions, etc.) to send
in with your submission. Enjoy!
10/20/03
Another serious update for today...
Demo
Chapter Package Release 3, containing revisions of Chapters 2-5
by Wayne and members of the CTNP
Editorial Team.
The chapters can be downloaded as .doc files or viewed as HTML files in
your browser from the Downloads Center.
As an additional pleasure to the project, these
chapters will also be hosted on
Icy
Brian's RPG site, which is one of the largest and leading RPG sites on
the Net!
Other updates include updates to the Committee pages
and Links/Affiliates page. A new poll regarding the Demo Chapters
has also been posted in Wayne's Question, so be
sure to stop by there!
The new sections for fan
submissions are coming just around the corner, so keep sending your fan
art, novel cover art, and fan fiction to
fansubmit@chronotrigger.info!
Any article ideas you may have can be sent to me at
novelist@chronotrigger.info
for approval.
10/4/03
You're a creative person, right? Of course!
So, why don't you show your fellow fans just what you can do!
Coming soon will be several new sections geared towards
content submitted directly from fans of Square games and the Chrono
series! If you have something to write about, then you'll want to
tap into the the upcoming Articles
section (email me at
novelist@chronotrigger.info if you have a topic that you want to write
about--all topics must be pre-approved, and I am taking submissions
now)! If you love to draw, whether by hand or with the computer,
then you'll love the Fan Art and
Novel Cover Art submission pages!
And, of course, what fan submissions site would be complete without a
section for Fan Fiction? So, if
creative writing is your thing, then you'll want to check that out!
And, for those of you who may not be talented in the arts, at the very
least, you'll have some very neat and new content to browse!
We're looking for content to kick the new sections off,
so please email anything that you have to
fansubmit@chronotrigger.info
with your name, email, or anything else that you would like posted with
your masterpiece (please be sure to specify what you want posted)!
Committee representative Marcus is standing by to receive your
submissions!
9/6/03
Today is a special day for
me and project, as it marks the 7th anniversary of the very first words
written for the first CT novel. Thus, on this day, the idea
of the novel was first placed into action. I can still remember when
I started with a traced sketch of the CT logo on the first page and
the first words "It was the brightest and most beautiful morning that
Truce Village, circa 1000 A.D., had seen." Of course, this
first draft was written back in my late middle school days, so that's why
it had to start all over again and continues to this day. More info
on the novel's history can be found on the
Novel
History page in the Novel Center.
Updates for today include a new and light-hearted
poll on the Wayne's Question page regarding Lucca's
love for Crono (yes, you heard right). I hope to bring you more
polls on a more regular basis. There has also been a major update to
the Support Club page, where you
webmasters (or anyone who wants to use some gif images for forum
signatures, etc.) can get a special "I'm a CT Novel Supporter"
character image. Check it out!
8/11/03
A few more tweaks have been made, and the new
Link
to Us page was created in the Support Center. This is just
another easy way for webmasters to show their support for the project
through their own sites. The page includes all of the current CTNP
images and banners used for linking. If you would like to make
another image, please feel free to email it to me and I'll post it if it
looks decent. I hope that you will take advantage of this great,
additional resource!
In light of that addition, I am also announcing
Release 2 of the Support Kit, which is a more thorough resource kit for
webmasters wishing to support the project with their own site(s). It
can't get any easier than this to support the project in your own site
without me doing it for you, so please take a moment to download it in the
Downloads Center.
8/8/03
By now, the site has been tweaked up a bit and
should be error-free. However, if you spot any problems, please
report them to bugs@chronotrigger.info.
Since the site's launch, the project has also
gained a presence in the IRC community. James, one of the Committee
Editorial Team members, has voluntarily setup a channel, called #CT-Novel,
on the Gamesnet network (irc.gamesnet.net). This was my first
experience with IRC, and I thought it was really neat! While there,
you can check up on the latest downloads, including the Demo Chapter
Package, which is available by typing !demopack in the message box.
Please check out the Contacts page for more
quick and easy instructions on getting started on our IRC network and be
one of the first to try it out. While you're at, please also take a
moment to check out the project's forum, which you can get to from the
Interactivity
Center. Enjoy!
8/2/03
Welcome to CTSite Reloaded! This is the new
and improved site design and layout that I have been promising for
weeks. While some of it is still in development, I hope you will
enjoy what's been done to make the site more complete and interesting for
the project. The ideas haven't stopped here, so keep coming back and
be sure that you're in the mailing list, because updates will be
coming!
Some new additions to the site include the
Support
Club, lots of Committee information pages that you can get to starting
from the Committee page, a
history
of CTSite, and an updated Interactivity
Center complete with a new and greatly improved online
chat! Many other pages have been updated, however, so please feel
free to check everything out, and let me know what you think of the new
design at novelist@chronotrigger.info.
Thanks, and enjoy!
